Minimally Invasive Procedures

Reduced Recovery Periods

Dr. David Ghozland offers a variety of minimally invasive procedures (MIP) for the benefit of his patients. These procedures improve a women’s quality of life by utilizing the latest technology available to minimize down time and risks of the surgery for the patient.

A minimally invasive procedure is performed by using the smallest incisions necessary to safely perform each surgery.  It is less invasive than its open surgery counterpart and thus typically safer, easier to recover from and more cosmetically appealing for the patient.

Dr. Ghozland provides the following minimally invasive procedures for women who may suffer from heavy periods, fibroids, pelvic pain and stress urinary incontinence, among other issues.

  • Endometrial Ablation: Removes, or ablates, the endometrial lining (or endometrium) of a uterus via the circulation of hot water. This allows Dr. Ghozland to treat and cure most patients with heavy periods without a single incision and therefore nearly no down time or pain.
  • Endometriosis Resection: Laparoscopy is performed to visualize endometriosis within the pelvis.  This allows the surgeon to resect and remove endometriosis safely and effectively.
  • Tubal Ligation — This procedure seals a woman’s fallopian tubes in order to prevent pregnancy.
  • Tubal Reversal — Undo a tubal ligation procedure to improve your changes to become pregnant again with this outpatient surgery.
  • Hysterectomy: Partial or full removal of the uterus
    • Laparoscopic: Removes uterus via laparoscopy with several small abdominal incisions
    • Scar-less: A robotic hysterectomy that involves only a singular small incision by the bellybutton
  • Myomectomy: A surgical procedure to remove fibroids, or noncancerous growths, on the uterus
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence: A fractional CO2 laser, an intravaginal device, is used to reverse the involuntary loss of bladder control
    • Bladder Sling: A minimally invasive outpatient procedure that helps to correct and treat urinary stress incontinence with little discomfort and quick healing.

Continuing technological innovations help make minimally invasive procedures possible and even more accurate and beneficial to patients.

Benefits include:

  • Less operative trauma
  • Less scarring
  • Less post-operative discomfort and pain, resulting in less pain medication required or needed
  • Faster recovery, which allows patients to return to normal activities more quickly than traditional surgery
  • Shorter hospitalization time
  • Less risk for post-operative complications
  • Greater accuracy, precision and control due to better video-assisted equipment and better visualization and magnification instruments

Normal risks involved, as with any type of surgical procedure, include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Anesthesia or medication reactions

Even though these minimally invasive procedures are less invasive for the patient and therefore add the advantage of a quicker recovery then traditional surgery, they still need to be completed in a surgery center. Most patients return home the same day after their minimally invasive procedure, and they resume their daily activities very quickly.

Dr. Ghozland has performed these minimally invasive procedures for 10 years as a pioneer in pelvic reconstruction surgery. These procedures, which provide as minimal injury to the body as possible, are safer than open surgery options and are a preferable first-line treatment for ailments involving the bladder or uterus.
