Still considered the “gold standard”, laparoscopic hysterectomy is a very common technique for minimally invasive hysterectomy. Hysterectomy procedures have dramatically improved in recent years, and they are no longer the complicated, high-risk surgeries they once were. Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a low-impact procedure with the benefits of reduced pain and recovery time.
What is involved with laparoscopic hysterectomy?
Dr. Ghozland is extremely proud to be able to offer quick and efficient hysterectomies that allow his patients to return home in a matter of hours. Laparoscopic hysterectomy requires only two or three 5-millimeter incisions made in the lower abdomen. The tiny incisions are cosmetically appealing and cause less post-operative pain.
The procedure allows for excellent visibility and control of the organs with the use of a laparoscopic camera and instruments. It is usually a 60- to 90-minute procedure. Patients usually are able to go home within a few hours.
This is a common choice for hysterectomy, as robotic hysterectomy (i.e. virtually the same process but performed in HD quality) is not always covered by insurance.
What are the benefits of laparoscopic hysterectomy?
Patients are able to enjoy:
- Decreased post-operative pain and recovery time
- Decreased operative complication rates
- A quicker return to work and daily activities
Are there any risks with a laparoscopic hysterectomy?
Like any surgery, laparoscopic hysterectomy risks include:
- Injury to adjacent organs
